March has become the month devoted to drawings in Paris.  We have made a selection of our most beautiful “papers”. Drawings are an important part of the work of the artists we have chosen.

Fred Deux devoted his entire existence to them, with a sense of detail pushed to its highest degree. Dado and Réquichot were also remarkable at drawing. As for François Lunven, one can’t help comparing his drawings to his engravings that he drew on plaques.

Certain drawings, in particular those of Bernard Réquichot and Fred Deux, have a pictorial dimension which give them, even in black and white, a semblance to paintings.

Many of Jean Hélion’s paintings, however, include elements of drawing. The impression of “unfinished” which emanates from them allows the spectator to enter into the process of the creation.

Other drawing are more of a jolt to being, to inner life and the analysis of metal mechanisms.

Michel Macréau questions the contradictions of our personality and the complexity of the relations of couples.

The drawings we have selected are works in themselves and not sketches corresponding to a preparatory step.  Often, it is in this medium that artists are closest to what they want to express.
